Welcome
Welcome to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation..
Chances are you or someone you know has been affected by breast cancer. The simple facts are that one in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime and one women dies from this disease every 12 minutes in the U.S. Did you know that men can get breast cancer too? Almost 1,500 men in the U.S. are diagnosed with breast cancer every year and over 400 men die from this disease. In the short time it takes you to read this page, one women will have died from breast cancer.
Most of us know at least 8 women. You live with them, work with them, love them, take care of them, and cherish them. They are our mothers, daughters, sisters, friends and wives. They nurture us and love us
unconditionally. Take a moment to write the names of just 8 women you know and love on a piece of a paper. Now, think about what it would be like to have to cross one name off your list because someone you love lost their battle with this disease. We can tell you first hand, a diagnosis of breast cancer is devastating…to lose a loved one from this disease is
debilitating!
Not long ago, breast cancer was the “women’s” disease that was not publicly spoken about. It was hushed…and kept very secret. Women were embarrassed about it and virtually never spoke a word to anyone when they were diagnosed. Today, it’s much different. Breast cancer is as common a word as any other cancer. Women are much more vocal about it and they are fighting it with every ounce of energy they have. Despite the fact that breast cancer remains the second leading cause of death in women over age 50, more and more women are taking action and responding to our plea’s about the importance of annual mammograms, monthly breast self exams and getting the proper education about this disease. If breast cancer is detected in its early stages, the 5 year survival rate is greater than 95%. We have made great strides in breast cancer research, awareness and education, but we still have a long way to go.
Remember...It’s Your Fight Too!
