Grants & Funding

Grants are allocated based on a comprehensive grant review process. Grants are awarded for breast cancer/breast health awareness, education, screening, treatment and support programs. Grants are reviewed in conjunction with our Statewide Breast Health Assessment which is updated yearly by the Foundations’ Board of Directors and qualified members of the breast health community. All grants received by the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation are carefully reviewed by a team of qualified professionals.

The tremendous efforts of hundreds of volunteers makes it possible for the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation to help local breast health organizations bring critical programs to fruition. To date, the following grants have been allocated:

Funding has been provided to Rhode Island Cancer Council for the publication and distribution of a most valuable breast cancer guide. This guide has been distributed throughout most of Rhode Island via breast health centers, doctor offices, and treatment facilities in an effort to increase awareness of a breast cancer patient options and resources. A copy of this guide can be obtained through the Rhode Island Cancer Council by calling 401-728-4800 or visit their website at www.ricancercouncil.org.

Funding has also been provided to the Healing Co-op for an innovative breast health program focused on patient healing. This program resulted in a published book, play and arts program designed to help breast cancer patients and their families cope with this disease.

The Rhode Island Breast Cancer Coalition also received funding which enabled a world renowned author and breast surgeon the opportunity to speak with hundreds of Rhode Island women who are suffering or have suffered from this horrific disease.

In addition to these grants, the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation has developed a comprehensive website designed to provide breast cancer/breast health information to anyone seeking this type of information. Our innovative website includes a detailed Resource Guide, an extensive Breast Cancer Statistics section, and a comprehensive Breast Cancer Facts page.
