The Angiogenesis Foundation

Mission
To improve global health by facilitating the development and application of angiogenesis-based medicine.

Background
The Angiogenesis Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. Founded in 1994, the Foundation was created by physicians, scientists, and humanitarians who share a vision that healthcare in the 21st century will be revolutionized by medicines that control angiogenesis.

Angiogenesis (new blood vessel growth) is the "common denominator" in society's most significant diseases, including cancer, heart disease, stroke, blindness, arthritis, psoriasis, complications of AIDS, and more than 70 other conditions.

By combining the effective use of knowledge, research, and education, the Angiogenesis Foundation takes a comprehensive and integrative approach towards helping society create and benefit from angiogenesis-based medicines. Since its inception, the Foundation has worked collaboratively with leaders in government, industry, universities, medicine, and patients and their support groups.

The Angiogenesis Foundation serves as:
A global information clearinghouse

A research and education institute

A think tank for new drug development and therapy adoption

Objectives
Advancing medical frontiers by conducting "mission critical" research

Speeding the development of new medicines by cross-fertilizing information and knowledge to key stakeholders in the angiogenesis field

Educating physicians and other health care professionals about the role of angiogenesis in disease and their new treatments

Raising awareness among patients and the general public about the benefits of angiogenesis research and medicines

Promoting angiogenesis-based medicines globally in order to fully realize the promise of the field

Programs & Achievements
In its first decade, the Angiogenesis Foundation has spearheaded the advancement of angiogenesis medicine along multiple fronts, by:

Advancing Science
Working with investigators from leading medical institutions, such as Harvard Medical School, Yale University, University of California Los Angeles, Veteran's Administration, Beijing Medical University, University of Aberdeen, and the University of Athens

Innovating new imaging technologies in collaboration with NASA, the U.S. Air Force, and the U.S. Department of Defense

Discovering new angiogenesis-controlling properties in existing medicines and natural compounds
Advancing Medicine

Testifying, lecturing and informing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and its Advisory Committees, the U.S. Congress and other governmental institutions about the promise and challenges of angiogenesis-based medicines

Providing information and expertise to global pharmaceutical leaders, such as Johnson & Johnson, Novartis, Procter & Gamble, Schering-Plough and others

Creating and leading in Angiogenesis Expert Panels for cardiology, oncology, wound healing and imaging

Establishing the world's first Angiogenesis Clinic in conjunction with Boston's Brigham and Womens Hospital

Evaluating the potential scope of impact of angiogenesis-dependent disease in the United States and European nations
Educating the Public

Educating healthcare professionals about angiogenesis through Centers of Excellence, conferences, symposia, lectureships, and peer-reviewed publications

Creating awareness among patients and their support groups about angiogenesis and guiding them towards clinical trials and available treatments

Guiding the media towards responsible and accurate reporting of angiogenesis-related stories, including TIME, LIFE, USA Today, LA Times, Boston Globe and others

Funding
The Angiogenesis Foundation is funded by philanthropy, private foundations and government grants, membership dues and unrestricted corporate grants.
