Team Survivor
Team Survivor is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that provides free group exercise, health education classes and support programs for women who have a present or past diagnosis of cancer. The group exercise programs offer the opportunity not just to become fit again (or for the first time), but also to gain a sense of accomplishment, a degree of emotional support, and a renewed comfort with one's body during and following cancer treatment.
The original Team Survivor program was founded in 1995 in conjunction with the Danskin® Women's Triathlon Series to provide a fitness opportunity for women cancer survivors to train for and participate in their first triathlon. Those involved with the first Danskin® Team Survivor programs in Austin, Texas and Seattle, Washington believed in the importance of providing year-round support and fitness opportunities for cancer patients and survivors, so an organization that provided weekly exercise programs & periodic fitness events for all women affected by cancer was born. Since that time, Team Survivor Affiliates have developed throughout the U.S. To see if there is an Affiliate near you, check out our location map. |
