The American Fertility Association (AFA) was founded in 1999 by Executive Director, Pamela Madsen, and works to transform the lives of couples faced with infertility, raise awareness and fight for social and legislative change around infertility issues. Ms. Madsen's collective experience with a group of committed health care providers, patient advocates and consumers, who had been working together on infertility issues since 1994, recognized the need to serve people before, during and after infertility.

The AFA's purpose is to educate the public about reproductive disease, and support families during struggles with infertility and adoption. The AFA exists to serve the unique needs of men and women confronting infertility issues.
The AFA provides a range of services designed to help people gather information about medical treatments, options, coping techniques, legal and insurance issues, and other concerns. One of its goals is to help couples make informed decisions throughout the infertility process. The AFA's services focus around increasing awareness of the medical and social issues around reproductive health and infertility, as well as prevention efforts that target young people to help them make informed choices about their sexual and reproductive lives.
The AFA is a national, non-profit organization serving the entire country through its national office in New York City. With its members and medical providers, The AFA has built a community of compassionate allies, ensuring that no one has to face infertility without friends.
