Less Is More
50 years ago, treating a woman with breast cancer involved major disfiguring surgery, long hospitalization, and debilitating follow-up care. Surgical clinical trials have resulted in de-escalated surgical interventions that preserve more of the natural breast with identical survival rates. The goal of breast surgery, with coordinated multidisciplinary care, is minimizing surgical intervention, improving outcomes, and maximizing quality of life.
